The Beginnings of Spring

Crinkled, dull leaves littering all over the pathway
Naked and bare, the trees tower over
The atmosphere still chilly
With whispers of winter already letting go

On a small patch of moss in front of a huge maple tree
A small splash of color reaches towards the sky
White satin and pink streaked petals
The tiniest little thing, so bright and alluring

All around the rain begins her journey to earth
Waking it up and melting the past into the ground
The soil nourishing, the buds blooming
Verdant foliage overtaking the once plain forest

Flowers swaying in the breeze
Adorned on branches and in the fields
Slowly these petals get lost in the wind
The leaves waving goodbye as the days move them on

Weeks go by, the forest so incredibly alive
Birds and squirrels gossiping around
Their food plentiful as the rain blankets over
The sun spreading warmth on this beautiful ecosystem

And that tiny flower from before
Still standing tall on that mossy floor
A new friend now sitting nearby
Watching together as their world comes to life
