Great story in all aspects. As much as I’m sure we’d all love a sequel, I don’t think one is necessary. The hints are enough and the fantasy it leaves in place is perhaps better than the reality. You know how it is: you write an epic starter and then everything to come after doesn’t quite seem to work. Leaving it to your readers’ imaginations is best.
I’d also like to point out that this seems to be the spiritual successor of a similar story about a mom bouncing on her son’s lap on a similar trip. So, for me, this story has been a long time coming.
