you lie amid the tangle
of sheets,
limbs spread
in contented exhaustion.
Head turned away,
hair coursing
in sepia streams
over pillow and shoulders.
Perfume of eros
lingers in the air.
I sit
in the chair opposite,
watching the rise and fall
of your breath,
listening to the susurrus.
Unable to sleep,
transfixed with wonder
that this delicate vessel
could contain my world entire.

Gorgeous little poem. I fell in love with it. It's deeply erotic without being explicit, and that's not easy to do. Also, I love the title. To me, the word 'tempest' just stirs up images of Shakespearean romance. You should post more poetry!
I loved all the word choices but that last stanza made my chest tighten with the same sense of wonder you describe.
