Click here"Hello!" Kellie called out again and then jerked in surprise as she spotted distant headlights coming towards her.
Kellie stumbled forwards and soon found herself walking on asphalt watching the headlights fast approaching.
Another bright light caught her attention and she glanced up into the night sky to see a brilliant star that had no business being in Orion's Belt, a star that was moving and rapidly picking up speed until it suddenly disappeared in a streak of light.
Kellie looked to where the star had disappeared for several moments and then raised her hands and began waiving as the car approached.
She had been sick that past few days whenever she had tried to eat. It had taken Jake to suggest the obvious to cause Kellie's heart to soar before plummeting to crash to earth.
Jake.
She knew he lived in Crane, a tiny town of only a handful of houses and a single gas station slash café. Probably everyone in town knew him. She also knew he was married, that she was still engaged.
The car suddenly braked hard enough to cause the tires to squeal before coming to a stop next to her. She supposed seeing a naked woman standing along the side of the highway and waving her arms might cause that.
"Are you alright?" a woman's voice called out.
Kellie was at least thankful that the driver was a woman and then fought back a sob.
"No," Kellie called back and then burst into tears, "I don't even know where I am!"
The woman quickly got out of her car and took of her jacket to offer to Kellie as she came over.
"How did you even get here?" the woman asked as she draped the jacket over Kellie's shoulders.
"ET?" Kellie managed to say before shaking her head, "I honestly don't know."
"Wait, you're Kellie Flock aren't you!" the woman suddenly asked.
"Yes," Kellie said hesitantly.
"Everyone in the state has been looking for you and the boy... uh... Jake something," the woman exclaimed, "Ever since you both just disappeared three months ago!"
"Three months!" Kellie said breathlessly.
"Yea!" the woman said and took Kellie by the arms, "Come on, I have to get you to Bend!"
Kellie allowed herself to be led towards the car and ensconced in the passenger seat with barely a glance up at the night sky.
"Three months..." Kellie said softly as the woman quickly turned the car around and started driving back the way she had come, a hand nestled against the warm skin of her stomach.
