When his alarm went off, Zach awakened from his nap on his bed at the base. He saw a text message from Berte, "Sweet dreams sweetheart! Text when you wake."
Zach texted to Berte, "Here I am. Just woke up."
A moment later, he got a text from Berte. She must have had it already composed. The message began, "Jill and I have been thinking constantly about tomorrow, so I want you to know first of all that everything's okay and I love you," it read. Jill was the name of her favorite vibrator.
"Oh-oh, here it comes," thought Zach to himself.
"Although I admit that the nasty bad stuff you did to me last time excited me to a degree I've never experienced before, I want something else tomorrow. I want you to tell me you love me with your words, because you're neurotypical, and that's how I know you mean it. I want to hear from your voice that you'll take care of me and guide me and that everything will be okay and my baby will be healthy and strong. "I fell in love with you, the real you," Berte texted quickly.
"I want you to make love to me the way you want me,"
"Zachary Carson."
"Doctor."
"I want you to tell me what you want,"
"and if I can't give it, I'll let you know."
"I want you to ask me to look you in the eyes"

"and I'll do it, because I love you,"

Berte texted, "Don't worry."

Zach is going to have at least eleven kids, yes, but that's not all the kids, or all the sperm. Remember the frozen sperm they have with them that they were supposed to be using? Not only that, more men will show up on the scene, certainly in three years when the next batch of colonists shows up on Mars. Maybe even sooner? But who will these new men be? What I'm trying to say is that it's not yet time to abandon all hope.

A correction has been submitted and is pending. This chapter was improperly formatted. Now I know how to do the special stuff to prevent extra line breaks from showing up in my text.
So every child will have a biological connection the Zach? The entire line will be a blood relative, regardless of how many generations there are? No other male is contributing to the gene pool?
When I posted this, the text message dialog was all neatly grouped together by speaker. I double checked this on my original copy. Something in the posting / moderation process must have disrupted this. I'll post a replacement for this chapter with the text grouped again, and hopefully it will take.
