Reality... Something to be Avoided

Reality...something to be avoided at all costs. Flash

I was reading some of the comments on my stories and among the ones who said my writing was like and outline and other such, I saw a few that mentioned that the stories were not realistic. So, I started to think about it. Reality for many people with cheating wives is not something I would look forward to.

So here is my take on reality. Sorry in advance if it sucks. I will try to apply the criticisms that could help.

750 word Flash story.

I was an average guy. There is nothing special about me. I work at a big box store and have for the last 10 years. I have been married for that whole time and my wife Julie works at a different box store. Our hours are the same, but our days are not. We have different days off. I thought things were going ok. We were renting in a nice complex. We each had decent cars, not new but decent and we had many of the toys that people want in their homes. We even had two cute kids: a son who was 8 and a daughter who was 6.

I was smiling as I walked up the stairs to the apartment on Friday night. Work had been pretty normal; I was looking forward to dinner. Normally on Friday we had pizza delivered. Like most people I like pizza.

I opened the door to the apartment and was a bit surprised by the quiet that greeted me. Silence did not live in this house until generally after 9 pm when the kids went to sleep. I was always amazed at how loud the house was when they were up. I went into the apartment and saw my wife sitting on the couch drinking a beer. I looked at her and smiled. Then she ended my world. She used those great five words that every man learns to fear more than skinny dipping in a pool of piranha.

Honey, we need to talk.

I sat down and tried to prepare myself. I wondered had I left the seat up on the toilet again? Did I forget to put my dirty clothes in the basket? No, I did the list of chores I was supposed to do as my share of the housework.

Honey, I am leaving you. I don't love you anymore and I want a divorce.

Is there someone else?

Yes, actually there is. The kids and I will be moving into his place this weekend. I am going to ask you to not make a fuss and try to be mature about this.

Naturally I was not mature about this. I blew my top; I cussed her out and then watched as she walked out. I spent the night texting her asking her for another chance. I spent the next day hating myself for having sunk that low. I called some friends and spent the rest of the weekend in my misery with my friends in support. I went to work on Sunday and called off Monday to find a lawyer. I was served Monday morning when I had just finished my first cup of coffee. What a lousy way to start my day.

The lawyer gave me the bad news. She would get half of all our meager assets. I would also be required to pay her child support and since I made more than her, I had to pay maintenance. Between child support, maintenance, insurance on the kids and putting money in a college fund for them, I was screwed.

I couldn't afford the apartment we had rented on my own, so I tried to get the landlord to let me switch to a smaller place. He refused. I lost the apartment even before the divorce was final and ended up in a dive with bars on the window. My car was stolen, and I had to take the bus to work.

They say that the best revenge is living a good life. Well, it is no revenge when your life sucks. I was given 'standard' visitation with my kids. Every Wednesday night for two hours and alternating weekends. The only problem was of course often she was a no show for visitation. The kids missed me, but 'Daddy John' had a swimming pool at his house.

I spent my nights dreaming of revenge. Couldn't do much more than dream of revenge. Reality said I had no way to get my revenge on her. I developed a new hobby after the first few years. I started writing stories on Literotica. I enjoyed the release of writing a good BTB story.

When her maintenance ran out, she and John married. They had a lovely home with a pool and two very nice cars. When the kids finally graduated high school, I was a forty-five-year-old night manager at a big box store and an author on Literotica with hundreds of stories and followers. No revenge, simply living in Reality.
