"It's nothing," she said. "I could have sworn she just...huh. Huh. I guess." She stepped away, blinking, before turning to me and smiling. "You won't believe what your cute little kitten just told me..."

Something else that's really interesting is the narrator's persistent use of condoms. You almost never see that in this sort of story. Responsibility.
Also, a lot of writers would have had a Kayin/Efe scene by now.
Concerning how Bast's 'powers' works I wanted to leave it a bit ambiguous as to what precisely was happening.
