Click hereLilly gave a deep and regretful sigh as she looked over Callum Turner's farm and thought about the last few months and the last decade. She had begun the decade an untried girl, a new bride full of youth, warm of emotion, easily perplexed by life's oddities. Now, there was nothing left of that girl.
Lilly Mayfield was a woman nearing middle age. Hunger and hard labour, fear and constant strain, the terrors of the war had taken away all warmth, youth and softness. Only Cal made her feel young, beautiful and cherished again. Whatever perils and pleasures awaited, Lilly knew her destiny lay with Cal. They were soulmates meant to be together. No matter where on Earth that was!
"So you're asking me to marry you? Without a ring...or anything fancy? You want me to be your Mistress? You know Muriel had a point; there are certain advantages to being a wife." she questioned teasingly. Her eyes danced with laughter.
Lilly didn't care if she lived with Callum unwed. She just loved Cal, but a couple in love deserved to tease one another. Cal stared at Lilly, whose eyes were sparkling with mirth.
"Uhmm..." said Cal. He hadn't meant his statement to be a marriage proposal. He was fine "living in sin," but if Lilly wanted to be married, he'd marry her in a microsecond.
"I love you, Lilly; I only want to be with you. I'll marry you or live with you. Whatever you want, you have my real love to last forever." proclaimed Cal. He meant it too.
After Cal's proposal of Newfoundland and a new beginning, Lilly felt strong and happy. If she was away from dragonically strict Antelope Hill, Lilly was not afraid of the darkness or the judgement of their relationship, and she knew with a blossoming madrigal in her heart that she would never fear vile and slanderous words again.
Callum and Lilly thought about the people of Antelope Hill, whom they'd know their entire lives without sentimentality. Cal and Lilly sold their farms, tools and homes to Ross Burns at a loss. They closed all accounts and cut all ties in Antelope Hill. They barely had enough money to start again in Newfoundland, but together they had love and the will to abide. Yet, as Antelope Hill vanished from the rearview mirror, all nostalgia left their hearts, longing to begin again.

Not that the coward will ever see this, I feel compelled to post anyway. First, as an author myself, I welcome constructive criticism. Sometimes I'm too close to the story to see the flaws and defects in my story. That said, name calling is petty and childish. If you don't like the story, move on. If you must post, at least be polite. Just because you don't care for the story does not mean others will feel the same. Every work posted here has merit and I applaud the bravery of those who subject themselves to the idiocy of the dreaded 'Anonymous' that lurks in the shadows, berating the hard working authors who put their hearts and souls into these works. I challenge said 'Anonymous' to post something and allow us to critique. Alas that will never happen as they are talentless hacks that only derive pleasure in attacking those who, indeed, do have talent. Put up or shut up! Second, to Kinkybunny specifically, you can delete the negative posts. I have done so myself. I do not sanitize my feedback, if the criticism is polite, sincere and has merit, I leave it. I re-read my feedbacks every so often to see if I can learn to be a better author. Please do not let them get you down. You are welcome here. You have a body of work to be proud of. I would suggest not responding to such juvenile posts in the future. The offending individual is unlikely to see it and even if they did, it usually leads to more inane and poorly worded (and spelled, are they so stupid that they are unaware of spell-check?) responses. I'll step off my soap-box now. Keep posting, I look forward to your next story. Bleeep
Dear Anonymous who appears to think it is acceptable to criticize someone for defending their work against individuals, like yourself, who don't contribute to this site, IT IS NOT, Please show some respect for someone who at least has the balls to make a contribution and write a story on this site. Like anonymous above I do contribute, The problem is that if we comment without being anonymous mindless trolls give us one scores. I do have anger issues when I read some comments here LOL
Looking at the author's comments, I think he has some issues. There are thousands of stories in literotica but this is the first time I've seen author bitching about every criticisms he's received. Anger issues, maybe. Lol
