I get what you're saying about "sharing", and I do agree. But...in a marriage, or any serious relationship, there's a bond between the two spouses, or partners, if you prefer. It comes with certain expectations and traditionally that includes some sort of exclusivity. It might be sexual and it might be emotional or spiritual. So while a woman is properly never owned or dictated to, she does owe a fidelity of a kind to her partner.
Plenty of people in open marriages negotiate different terms than what is traditional, and that's a good thing. Women have been actual chattel for too many centuries and that's only beginning to change. I think in a sense this is a discussion about semantics- "sharing" being the word in dispute. I don't think sharing means the same thing to all of us. I would not object to my wife using the term "sharing" for allowing another woman to have sex with me. She doesn't own me but she does have the right to expect certain behaviors of me. For many it denotes ownership and for others it calls up the bond I've spoken of between the two partners. I think you're quite right in pointing out that sharing so often has a connotation of proprietary interest and that it makes your hackles rise. Frankly I'd be surprised if it didn't. Many of us have a foot in both worlds, the old and the new. It can be hard to let go of old habits of speaking and writing- just as hard as it is to let go of our old- and outdated- sense of male privilege.
To try to get ahead of any argument, I wouldn't for a minute suggest that you are overreacting or that you're hypersensitive to the idea of being shared. (I can imagine sone readers taking that view.) It's for you to decide when and with whom to share yourself. It's only just. You alone have autonomy over your own body. And yet, a spouse or serious partner has a right to believe that she or he is the sole recipient of certain sexual and emotional access unless otherwise negotiated and agreed upon.
I apologize for being so wordy and pedantic. It seems like an important topic for discussion today, and especially given the prevailing sexist attitudes especially on THIS site. I have a great deal of respect for you, lue, and I hold your opinions in high regard.
Over all, the story has built to some really good, sexual fun for all. Please leave it that way, even bringing in more partners for Roni. Best if Roni grows as well and accepts Steve joining in the fun during a partner swap or swinger’s party. Mostly, don’t have Steve evolve into some spineless wimp who just pretty much gives his wife away with Roni becoming a sex-selfish bitch. I really like her so far and their relationship shows the potential to grow and evolve into something really fun for both of them. They’re a couple.
