What does a 38 year old woman do when she finds herself single again for the first time in 14 years? As I sat on the balcony of my apartment a few ideas crossed my mind. Some of them involved my ex husband. Some involved another woman.

"The firm can supply you with a lap top and a cell phone. I do have a meeting scheduled for this afternoon. I'll need you there to take notes."

She nodded.

At 1 o'clock she took her seat across from me at the conference table. The client is seated beside her.

She would go on to print the notes from the lap top, edit them and present them to me by the end of the day.

The days passed. I found Jackie to be conscientious but also personable. We grew accustomed to making small talk and gained insights into each other's private life. My suspicion that she is gay grew stronger. Suspicion led to action on my part.

A Friday afternoon two weeks into her employment was like any other day until it wasn't. Like so many times before she brought my cinnamon raisin bagel and coffee from the cafe near by. We chatted for a couple of minutes because she was early and I wanted to have my breakfast before settling down to work.

"Is 10 o'clock okay?"

"Whenever you can make it," I replied.

I was up and about in time to see my husband leave with his fishing pole and tackle box.

"Have a good day."

"Deep sea fishing usually is good."

I recalled him talking about his friend Rick's boat. I even knew some of the details about it.

From minutes before 7 30 I had the house to myself until 10 o'clock.

The sound of a car door reached my ears. I looked through the window in time to see Jacqueline Benson approaching the front door.
