It's lovely to see Berta and Carwen having these wonderful intimate times, but the Saxons seem to be causing too much tension for the Britons. I am curious to see how that will unfold.

I would be inclined to agree with you, Pixie, that things might be better if women ruled. But sadly, history has shown us that many women rulers/politicians from Pharaoh Hatshepsut to Margaret Thatcher can be every bit as tough and ruthless as men (think Boudicca in a period shortly before the setting of this story). As the old joke goes: The meek shall inherit the earth---if the rest of us let them. I can't see any rulers, male or female, letting them! Still, a great five-star story.
