"John, I'm so sorry" and "Man, I'm sorry for...." They were talking over each other, and I held up my hand to stop them.

"Stop, both of you. I want you to listen to me. Are you okay with that?" They both nodded and I told them to sit down in the two visitor's chairs. They did, and I continued, "Fonderot, I hope you rot in hell for what you did in my house, in my bed, with my wife. But I have to thank you: you see, you have turned me into a philosopher these past few weeks. Lying in bed here, immobilized, damaged eye, being tortured by the doctors and nurses, I had a lot of time to think about you, the horrible thing you did to me and, God help me, the great thing you did to me. You saved my life after you destroyed it. I have been asking myself, how do those two actions balance in the universe? Does karma mean that I owe you now? Are you responsible for me now, like the Chinese belief that you are responsible for any life that you save?

"I'll tell you what I have decided. I am not going to seek any kind of revenge against you. You can walk out of this room and take comfort from my promise that I will not come after you. I won't lie in wait to break your leg or castrate you or anything else. But you will stay away from Joan as long as she is my wife. And you will stay away from me. If I see you, in a grocery store, on the sidewalk, wherever, I will kill you. I have a concealed carry permit and I will carry. If I see you, five yards or 50 yards away, whatever, I will shoot you. I will aim at that beautiful red line on your forehead, and you should know I am a pretty good shot. And I think a shot through your forehead will kill you pretty fucking dead.

"Now don't say anything. Just nod if you understand." He nodded, and I continued, "Get out of here, and hope I never see you again." He quickly left and Joan and I were left looking at each other.

"John, please, please, before you tell me whatever horrible things you are going to do to me, listen to me. I'm as sorry as I can be. I have no excuses, no reason why I cheated, except that I'm a bad person. I don't expect you will ever forget or forgive, but I hope you will always remember, no matter how bad I was, I still loved you and will always love you." She sat there, hands folded in her lap, looking as sweet and virginal as the day I met her more than 25 years ago. But that was then, and this was now.

"Joan, you fucking broke my heart. Almost literally. When I walked into our bedroom, I think my heart stopped beating. Sometimes over this last three weeks in the hospital, I wished I had died, right there in the bedroom in front of you and asshole Fonderot. Or I wished that deer had torn a bigger hole in my neck, and you would have found me dead in my truck. But you know what? My hatred for Fonderot and for you kept me going. And then I found out he, and you, saved my life. I couldn't figure out how to even think about that. And I couldn't talk to anyone about it. I mean, the story just sucks. I think I scared Fonderot enough, and left him with a beautiful scar, that I'm done with him. But you, what the fuck do I do with you?"

"John, please, I'll do anything I can, anything you want, anything...."

"Joan, just shut up for now. Listen to me. I will come home with you, tomorrow, I think. I need about a month of recuperation before I can go back to work. The doc says I can do that recuperating at home if I have someone to help. That someone needs to be you. Otherwise, I will have to go to a recuperation facility, and I am sick to death of being in a hospital kind of place. As angry as I am for what you did, and as difficult as it might be for the two of us to live together for the next month, I hope you can say yes to our staying together for a month."

"Oh, John, yes, yes, a thousand times yes. Honey, I thought...."

"Wait, Joan, don't think this means we are okay after what you did. I am going to be working on my rehabilitation. Whatever happens between us is for the future." I did need her for another month, so now was not the time to tell her she had destroyed our marriage. That was for later.

The next day, I was discharged. Franklin and Dr Amir both stopped by my room to say good-bye and wish me luck. Joan brought me some clothes, and the hospital returned some of the clothes I had been wearing when I hit the deer. I found Fonderot's driver's license in my pants pocket. I kept it and threw the clothes away. Knowing where he lived might come in handy.

Interesting development when Joan and I got home. She ushered me down the hall to our bedroom. I balked at going in, and told her I was never going in that room again. She asked me just to look inside.

"Honey, I bought a brand-new bed, and a new mattress and sheets and everything. I got rid of all the old stuff, and, uh, uh, I have something to show you outside, in the backyard." We went outside and I saw a pile of wood.

"John, that wood is our old bed. The guys who delivered the new bed helped me break up the old bed and I poured gasoline on it this morning, before I left to get you at the hospital. I was hoping you and I could burn the old bed together, you know, as a kind of sign that we are past the horrible thing I did." I looked at her. She was holding a box of wooden matches, open for me to take one. She already had one in her hand. This was so unexpected that I just stood there for a while. Really without knowing what to think, I took a match, we both lit them, and then threw them on the gas-soaked wood. It flared up immediately and burned as we both stood there looking at it. It got hot enough that I stepped back, and accidentally bumped her. That was the first time I had touched her in at least a month. She grabbed onto me, both arms around my neck and started sobbing against my back. I let her cry for a while and then turned around.

"Joan, thank you for doing this. It does mean something, although I really don't know what. It doesn't mean we are past your betrayal, and it doesn't mean I will return to your bedroom, but it was a good thing to do."

"That's enough for now," she said. "Let's get you into the guest bedroom and settled in." I did get settled in, took a long nap, and woke up to a nice, soft-diet dinner that she had fixed.

During the next month she worked only half time at the law firm, so we were home together most of the time. And during that time, she did everything possible for me. She said she was sorry until I told her to stop, she fixed great dinners, she consulted with my physical therapist, who came every other day at first and then tapered off to once a week, she got me up and walking and doing the exercises the therapist assigned. She was the perfect wife, except of course we were sleeping in separate bedrooms and sex was not even something to discuss.

By the end of the month, I had to admit to myself that some of my anger had dissipated, partly, I also admitted to myself, because I was getting hornier by the day as my recovery progressed and I got stronger. What did I want? Just to fuck her and then walk out? Try to forgive her and reconcile? Goddam, it was time to talk with her.

"Joan, I'm going back to work next Monday," I told her on a Thursday evening after another delicious dinner. "The question for me is: do I go to work from here, and come home to a loving, trying-to-reconcile wife? Or do I just say 'fuck it' and move out?" She was not making my decision any easier by the scanty clothing she changed into when she came home from work.

"John, I hope you can see I have been doing everything I can this past month to help you recover. And I will do anything else you want: go to counselling with you, or by myself, let you beat me if you need to, not cry, well, not too much, if you want to cheat on me. Just, if you do that, not here, please. I mean, I know I did it here, but if you..."

"Joan, hush about all that. If we are going to survive together, I guess I need to know why. Why did you get involved with that asshole? And why in god's name did you bring him here?" My voice was rising as some of my anger was venting.

"I've thought about all that, especially while you were in the hospital and I couldn't even see you. You didn't know this, but your nurse Franklin did let me sneak into the ICU a few times, while you were asleep, and let me just look at you. John, that was so scary, you looked horrible, and you had all this, this equipment and tubes and machines and stuff hooked to you. And it was all my fault. But Franklin told me I had to be strong, that you would need my help when you got out of the hospital. And he was right. You did need me, this past month, and I have helped you and I love you so much and I'm so sorry and...."

"Joan, Joan, ok, I get all that. You feel guilty, and, yeah, you should. But why did you fuck asshole in the first place? And for how long? And why in our bed?"

"I wish I could say I lost my mind or had some reason that sounded sensible or anything, but the truth is I was just bored at work. Sam asked me to lunch one day. He comes by our office, well, he used to; he was our IT guy. Our office is too small to need full time IT support, and Sam works for our IT support company. He did maintenance on our computers and printers and fixed them when they needed that. So he was in and out of the office just about every week. He reported to me when he came and went and I processed payments to his company. Anyway, one day he had just finished some work and it was lunch time. I really think it was pretty innocent. I mean, he might have wanted to schmooze me a little bit, you know, get in good with me since I was his contact at the law firm, but... John, he's not smart like you, he...."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Go on with the story."

"Well, we went to lunch, and it was okay, and we started doing that once very week or so, and...."

"And you never thought to share your lunch adventure with your husband?"

"John, it wasn't like that, I mean not at first, it was just lunch. But, yeah, I know what you mean. It didn't stay just lunch. We didn't want to get into trouble from anybody seeing us together, so we started going on picnics, and I guess that led to some kissing and then one day we went to a motel instead of lunch, and uh, you know, we uh, we had sex. And John, the sex was okay, but it wasn't great, it wasn't...."

"Joan, you kept doing it with him. For how long?"

"Well, it was a few months, but I felt really bad and we only did it when you were away on your crop inspection trips and...."

"And how many times in what used to be our bed?"

Oh John, that's what's so bad about this. That night was the first time he ever spent the night. He's married too and he loves his wife and she was out of town that night so it was just really bad luck that we did what we did here and you came home and...."

"Joan, you say that was the first time he spent the night here, but how many times was he in our bed during your lunchtime fucks?"

"John, the motel was expensive, and someone might see us, and picnics meant, you know, doing it on the ground, and his wife was home, so uh yeah we did use our bed a few times, but only when you were gone, and I always washed the sheets and cleaned everything before you got home."

"Wow." I was stunned by her story. Part of me was saying it was a pretty ordinary story of a cheating wife and her fuck buddy. But the bigger part of me was saying, yeah but it was my wife doing the fucking. "I need to think about all this."

"John, it's over with him. He doesn't come to our office anymore; they send someone else and...."

"Someone else you can fuck?"

"John, no, no, never again." I thought she might be telling the truth about that, at least for now, but it didn't really make any difference.

"I'm going to bed. Like I said, I need to think about this."

"John, please, remember I love you, and I am so sorry." I did go to bed and we got through the weekend.

Monday morning, Joan drove me to the repair facility, and I saw my truck for the first time since that night. I told the repair guy that he did an incredible job on it. It looked brand new. Joan left in her car to go to work, and I just sat in my truck for a while. Finally, I drove, not to my office, but back home. I walked around, went into the master bedroom for the first time since that night. I stood next to my side of the bed and thought about how I almost killed someone that night. And about Joan fucking someone else in this room. Then I drove to my lawyer's office.

EPILOGUE

The divorce went as smoothly as those things can go. Neither of us wanted the house so we eventually sold it and split the proceeds 50/50. I was stuck with some alimony for three years, but I could afford it. We both kept our retirement accounts, we split the savings 50/50, all in all pretty amicable I guess. I never saw Fonderot again; lucky for him.

Joan and I sat down with our sons and told them we had grown apart, hence the divorce. They were grown up enough that I think it didn't bother them too much.

And that's my story. Sad ending for everyone, especially for that damn deer.

rehab with her - no way

AnonymousAnonymous24 days ago

Decent, believeable story. Most marriages end this way,no real btb and no reconciliation possible. Only anger, sadness and frustration.

AnonymousAnonymous24 days ago

if it takes less than an afternoon to talk your wife into fucking another man, well, you were never really married.

AnonymousAnonymous25 days ago

Seems a realistic story. A drunken one-off, if discreet, might be forgivable. A months-long affair that mostly happened in my house, in my bed screwed the pooch. Not sure I could have done the rehab at home with her.

phill1cphill1c25 days ago

I could maybe get past the sex, but in my bed?! If you can't afford a motel room or car seat, you can't afford to fuck. Trifling!!

rockdoctor63rockdoctor6325 days ago

Nice story. I always love it when they say "even though I was having sex with someone else I still love you". That is the biggest bunch of BS there is. There is NO way you can love someone and have an affair like that. The guy came on to her and she went with it. She deserves more pain and I would have made sure that his wife knew about it.

It took a strong man not to pull that trigger when he found them in his bed. Nothing left but divorcing the cheating bitch.

There didn't seem to be much of a seduction: lunch to fucking. And then in someone's bed. You kinda deserve to be shot if you're fucking someone's wife in his/her shared bed.

She really didn't seem sorry or worth reconciling with.

The author is amazing. Though he writes short, simple stories, he manages to add intriguing unusual circumstances and raise philosophical questions. I have rated some of is other stories and so far it has always been a 4.

Only 3 stars for him even thinking of forgiving he slut.

AnonymousAnonymousover 1 year ago

WTF? Yeah, she cheated with this guy for a couple of months while he's on business. That's tragic, no excuse possible. Even though it's only like once or twice/ month. However, with that in mind, she did help save his life with her lover; after the hospital, she helped him recover from his accident. He even admitted that she was the perfect wife.

While I'd generally say this should lead to a divorce, in this circumstance, I think an attempt of reconciliation via a counselor is called for. Again, she did everything to help. And gave the guy a "pass"- to not let him be seen. Couldn't do something like that with his wife? Make her sign a post nup, go to that counseling. It could help him with his hurt also. But to lead her on, which he did in my opinion, then divorce her? No, now he's being the bastard. And that ruined the story a bit. You seemed to be heading (in the story) toward reconciliation, then it drops. Just no. 2 stars for this.

AnonymousAnonymousover 1 year ago

The wife had sex with that coffee salesman while hubby's away on business, then says she's so sorry. (LOL, did she at least get a discount for some personal-use coffee?) John's right not to trust her after what she did, even with the salesman away. However, I can't help thinking that, in this case- with the amount of help she gave, he wanting to go overboard to make up for what she did, a reconciliation should've been tried, albeit with a post nup. She repeats the action in any way, she's out of the marriage with barely nothing- no excuses or 3rd chances.

But, as the story reads, there was a divorce. Nothing about the talk between spouses, etc., which's important. As such, my somewhat distaste of an ending seemed somewhat rushed. Being that this guy loves bedding married women, or at least his wife, maybe John should've told his wife; then, I think the guy's spared as he did save John's life, the might've been spared. However, that part wasn't mentioned in their talk. Lastly, there's too many runon sentences, using either "and" or commas to continue it.

He should have told loverboy's wife

AnonymousAnonymousover 1 year ago

3 stars. Nothing too gripping for me. However, I do not feel, like some others, that the story was non finished. The fact that his wife can keep saying she's so sorry & loves him but fucked this other guy for months makes her mentally not fully there. She doesn't know why she did it? But kept on with so-so sex for all that time, making sure it's only when her husband's doing inspections out of town. She did it because she felt she could, & he'd never find out. Bedding this guy once could be written off as a mistake; doing it for months is a wanted action. Bob

Wellll.......Been there done that. At least the wife never brought anyone home. She just started going out to bars by herself. 13 years and two daughters lost because she got bored. I liked the story but agree with the anon about boredom and sometimes we get married for the wrong reasons. The other anon suggested a visit to the guys wife, I definitely agree with that one. The dovorce was a foregone conclusion, once a chater.............

Never marry someone younger than you especially if you have nothing in common. I was 6 years older than her when we married, she was 19 with a 2 year old. It doesn't sound like much but when I reached 39 she was only 33 it is a big difference and there was no communication, that's what's important. A much better story than the Martian Slut Ray so I give it 4 stars. A kittle BTB is helpfull sometimes. Oh yeah, my divorce was amicable and cheap we did it ourselves, all it is is a bunch of paperwork if nobody goes nuclear, if you know what I mean. Keep writing.

Yeah, just lame. She got bored. No big change in personality, character, great emotional upset in her life, just bored. It wasn't a matter of who, just when. He got what he married, so he got what he deserved. She had to have been a cheap selfish shallow person for most of their marriage, and was getting worse with age. Good thing he found out so he can maybe find a decent woman for the rest of his life. But not telling their children that their mother was a whore? That was weak. You never stop being a parent, never stop teaching and guiding, and at this critical moment they lied to their children. Yeah, just another weak shallow tepid marriage of weak shallow mediocre people. Let's hope their children are better and smarter people. Thanks for the effort.

Good effort . Very easy to read . The plot could have had a twist or two in it , but didn't.

Glad they divorced . I think that was a given .

Like others , I wonder why Fonderot got off so lightly . Apart from the bedroom confrontation , nothing .

He had been enjoying sex with another man's wife for some time and his own wife had no clue about that betrayal .

Perhaps Joan should have been made to go round and apologise to her . Fonderot and wife might not divorce but at least he would have some pain to deal with and she would know the character of man she was married to .

Great Story, Loved It!!

GamblnluckGamblnluckover 1 year ago

I liked the first half or more of the story. Perhaps I could see him saying he was not going to go after Fonderot because he had saved his life. Then he went on and issued a threat of killing the guy if he even saw him on the street. Not smart. He should have said, "YOU will confess to your wife, though."

He asks his wife to help him with the rehab? Why? Because he does not like the idea of a facility but he wants to spend time with the bitch and let her grovel a bit before he divorces her?

The ending was very weak. Friendly divorce not even telling the sons the reason. He did no have to go scorched earth but she should have at least been singed.

MikeT said the wives in these stories do not see the disconnect between what comes out of their mouths and their actions. Of course not. A cheater makes up their excuses for why they did it. Boredom, the spouse is unavailable, got caught up in the thrill etc but NEVER really thinking they'd get caught. The ones who do it defiantly in the man's face show even more disrespect as they think the husband too weak or stupid to do anything about it. But like anything else, they are not really bad in their own eyes, they are just doing it for themselves. Without that attitude you wouldn't have any stories here. Instead the story would read "Spouse 1: Not happy with our relationship anymore, getting a divorce, bye. OR: Oh by the way, already shopping for your replacement."

He pistol whips someone, threatens to kill them and you think he won’t be going to prison?

If I’m fucking some guys wife and he pulls that shit, one of two things are going to happen: either he kills me or I kill him. After all, she invited me into her house and “I was afraid for my life”

She gets an instant divorce, his money and his insurance and he gets to tell St. Peter that it’s all a giant mistake.

Or else he will kill me and because I was unarmed, asleep and not a threat, he will be going to prison for the rest of his life.

Either way, not a concern.

Reads like the adultery was the symptom rather than the disease. No great simpatico, no great emotional or physical attachment, just some new dick to fuck when hubby was not around, so why not? I mean its not like the fucking was all that important to her, about as important as her marriage, apparently. The parents withholding the real reason for their divorce from their sons is consistent with people who deny the truth and try to avoid being honest when it is uncomfortable. Of course one day somehow the sons will find out their mother was fucking around on their father, and I wonder if they will care, or even be surprised. It was an interesting story, perhaps made special by its blandness and lack of energy. Thanks for the effort.

Should have told the boys why they divorced.

PowersworderPowersworderover 1 year ago

It was a decent story until the end, which was surprisingly anticlimactic.

He went to a lawyer, they got divorced. The End.

Seriously?

-

After all that setup with the hospital convalescence, this was the big conclusion to the story?

At the absolute bare minimum, I expected Joan to ferociously "fight for her marriage", like most cheating wives do when their husbands threaten to divorce them. She was constantly apologising and saying how much she loved him, so I can't see a woman like that ever just giving up.

Then they lied to the boys about the reason for the divorce. Why? It's going to be painfully obvious that they weren't told the full story when he doesn't want to socialise with the ex-wife in the future. And why cover for her cheating ass anyway?

-

As for forgiving Joan and Sam because they saved him... fuck that!

The husband only hit the deer in the first place, because the discovery of his wife's infidelity put him back on the road and in harm's way. The cheating couple were 100% responsible for the accident, so saving his life made them even. However, that didn't settle the score for the cheating, or the massive disrespect of fucking in the marital bed.

Well done.

Delicately handled an explosive situation.

Where every reader has his opinion.

I don't agree lying to their sons about the divorce.

If they don't want to know, they have the right.

But they also have the right not to being lied to.

And, as with many recent stories,

the aftermath is missing.

We get our guy's recovery from his accident,

but nothing on his recovery from the betrayal.

Why is that less important?

4 out of 5 from me.

timrivtimrivover 1 year ago

Unable to forgive is sad sure they cheated, but they saved his life and Joan stood by him during his recovery. He should realize she would never cheat again and the boyfriend was out of the picture. His telling the guy he would kill him if he ever saw him again and to stay away from his wife was inappropriate he should have said they were cool shook hands and told him they were even and he could have his wife if and when he divorced her till then stay away.

Cheating on a spouse is the lowest thing you can do.

That’s why so many couples divorce.

Couples that share with others and do so with each other’s permission are so much happier and closer together. Their divorce rates are less than half of the national average.

Cheaters should be shot.

The cheating wives in these stories never seem to see the disconnect between their words and their actions.

Joan says she didn't tell her husband about the lunches because they were just lunches.

If they were just lunches she would have mentioned it to her husband. It may have been at a subconscious level at first but, somewhere deep inside herself she knew going to lunch with another man was wrong so she didn't mention it to her husband.

If it's all perfectly innocent and platonic why wouldn't she mention it to her husband?

A good but strangely emotionless story. Entirely missing is any real explication of why the wife fucked Fonderat given that, according to the wife, her husband seemed better choice.

Just_WordsJust_Wordsover 1 year ago

I liked it! 5*****! The author made some different choices, but in the end the duration of the affair and the use of the marital bed was the end of the marriage. I like that he tried, but she should have come to her senses a lot faster than that. I won't quibble about telling the other guy's wife. It's best that he move on.

dark2donut2dark2donut2over 1 year ago

He did not need to elaborate anything as that would be nothing but a cliche as everybody does the same here with a lot of psychobabble.

The way it is the story holds well, not much of a plot but the little it is, sounds decent and more creative than usual "car in the driveway" crap on LW. Not bad.

AnonymousAnonymousover 1 year ago

Pretty good story with good writing. Not quite sure why I didn’t have any emotional attachment to the MC…or any of the other characters. Maybe it was because he was immobilized/dependent for much of the story. It will be interesting to see how the author develops in future tales.

Do I rate the story 1 star or 5 stars? Or something in between? So, I gave a 3 stars rate. The story was written well and clearly. But since I am a BTB type of person, the ending left me flat. The "lover's" wife should have been told. The "lover" himself should have suffered more. The wife should have suffered more. But hell, it is your story to tell, and since I cannot write for shit, I will just leave you with the thought to just keep writing. You did do a good job, despite my gripes. Will read more of your writing.

"Joan and I sat down with our sons and told them we had grown apart, hence the divorce. They were grown up enough that I think it didn't bother them too much."

So, why lie to the sons? They're adults. They know what sex is all about. I'm sure they know that having sex with someone other than your spouse is cheating. The wife only owned up to the affair to her husband and kept it a secret from everyone else. If you make shitty decisions and if your actions and behavior hurt and destroy someone else that you claim to love then for fucks sake own your shit. She got bored with her husband and decided to start fucking someone else and did so for several months. Joan's still hiding her affair...hiding it from her sons, family and all their friends. I'm sure her work colleges knew that she had something going on the side with Fonderot. Fonderot's wife should know that he cheated. Why should his life continue like nothing happened. The story just ends with a whimper. John living didn't have much effect on the story. Might just as well had John die in the accident with the deer.

Mrhappy4aaMrhappy4aaover 1 year ago

Average unknowing husband and his cheating slut wife. Yes, it's a short story with lots of holes and unfinished business. I didn't like how this ended. There were several ways that this could have went. Sam's wife should know how sleazy her husband is, Joan's coworkers should have been notified of her betrayal to her husband, John. This tale of betrayal ended to quickly with no real harm done to the cheaters. 2 stars

I farm wheat, and this was hilarious: "This past week, I had had a run-in with two brothers who were claiming a huge loss on some wheat that I believed they had actually harvested and then flooded their own fields."

You might as well have written that the brothers claimed that space aliens had harvested and stolen the wheat.

AnonymousAnonymousover 1 year ago

What's this nonsense about never telling the other betrayed spouse and keeping the affair a secret from the rest of the family? You're protecting the cheaters.

AnonymousAnonymousover 1 year ago

Nope. Joan and Fonderat are the reason John ended up back on the road to begin with. Had John come home to an empty garage, he would have been home for the night and all would have been well. So Joan and F-boy saved his life, the accident should not have happened to begin with. That's what John didn't take into consideration when he met Joan and F-boy in the hospital. John should have talked to Mrs. Fonderant AND made Joan go with him to do so. Joan should have been the one to tell Mrs. F just how her hubby got that big scar on his forehead. John should have stayed married to Joan and forced a lopsided post-nup. She messes up again, she leaves with nothing. John gets equal numbers in hall passes for every single time Joan and F-boy did the deed. I feel John never really got his pound of flesh from either Joan or F-boy.

A quirky, entertaining read with an original plot device in the collision with the deer. I liked it. Some commenters seem unduly angry that he had to pay alimony but, hey kids, life isn't perfect and sometimes we have to settle for the best deal we can get. At least he freed himself from the treacherous skank, so overall he can be reasonably satisfied with the outcome. 4 stars.

AnonymousAnonymousover 1 year ago

She didn't pounce when the iron was hot, of course he divorced her stupid ass. "I got bored" is a very honest admission, but a hard one to accept. What happens the next time you get bored? "Ill never do it again" You promised never to do it when they married.

Honesty was important, but it's not enough. Love and respect are. She cared for him, and that was required. She never seemed to go above and beyond. She should have quit her job IMMEDIATELY and gotten counseling IMMEDIATELY. And instead of seducing him with skimpy cloths (that's what you do when people actually LIKE YOU) she should have gotten a paddle and punishment toys from a sex shop. Then she shows him and demands he punish her because...yes...she deserves it. That's how you entice the man. Showing off your naked bits to a man that's seen them a million times, and the last time was when you were fucking some dude cuz, "I was bored" isn't a winning plan.

A well told story with an interesting plot. I'm just amazed why you let them both tell a lie about the divorce? What reasons are there to protect a cheater from the opinion of her adult sons? 4*!

ScorpioJJScorpioJJover 1 year ago

Interesting twist. He didn't really owe him his life. What Fontenot did in his bed with his wife caused the events that lead to the accident. Fontenot owes him for the loss of months of his health, his wife, his home. At the very least, the scumbag's wife should have been told. He deserved some punishment. Divorcing Joan was the only thing he could do. She could never be trusted again. She had no good reason for cheating so what would keep her from doing it again.

AnonymousAnonymousover 1 year ago

He had no choice. She was fucking that guy for months, and would not have stopped on her own. And her “remorse” was for what it did to him…and not for doing it in the first place.

.

Never understand why cheated on spouses getting divorced don’t explain it to their adult children — especially when the cheating spouse refuses to explain.

.

The epilogue was way too brief. Made it sound like Joan was OK with the divorce. Which pretty much confirms that her “remorse” for cheating was…at best….very shallow. He was well rid of her.

.

Kudos for the plot device of the cheaters saving his life. That introduced an interesting dilemma for the MC to resolve.

Why not give the dates, instead of May _?

\

"The car was older, not a rental car, so no visiting relative." - Why does the age and rental status mean no relative? Do they all drive newer cars, or live too far to drive?

\

On one hand, they saved his life, on the other hand, his life wouldn't have been at risk if not for them.

\

"I have no excuses, no reason why I cheated, except that I'm a bad person." - So there, for all of the apologists who want to know, "Why?"

\

Why do so many wives cheat the day before their husbands are due home? If a husband is going to come home early, it'll probably be by one day.

\

"And John, the sex was okay, but it wasn't great, it wasn't...." - Yet, they kept doing it.

\

Kind of petered out at the end, not enough of a confrontation.

I know the BTB crowd will not agree, but I don't see throwing away a good 25-year marriage for a stupid affair of a few months. Especially when she was willing to make all those concessions to remain married.

It was so-so. The deer part was fine, but telling adult children a lie about "growing apart" was utter crap. "Not your business" or "Ask your mother" would work, but do not lie to them. They deserve better,

The first 2/3 of the story was great, but it ended with a hardly a whimper. I felt his angst, when he was in the hospital, but once he got home, we didn’t really get much of a peek into his head.

BTB wasn’t his thing, and that’s fine, but the story finished with the usual, saw a lawyer, sold the house, split the money,

The best stories leave the reader with a deeper understanding of the hero’s emotions and actions.

Sad with an interesting twist with them, fortuitously, saving his life, and the way she destroyed the bed.. There wasn't really any other possible outcome once she confessed to the nature of the affair and the times they were at the family home. Joan was probably wise to confess fully (even if only for the benefit of your readers) as there was no way forwards without that. I liked her naivety too - "picnics meant, you know, doing it on the ground"

Should Fonderot have had more comeback? Not sure, it's your story. How did Fonderot explain the scar to his wife. Not sure.

A strange, emotionless story. If their sex life was great why did she suddenly become a whore. It turns out that her lover was weak in sex. So why. And such a strange ending, where the lover is not punished by conveying the news of his betrayal to his wife. Lots of holes in this story. Slut wife cheats for several months, in their marital bed, and sons do not blame her for breaking up the family. The spouse himself divorces without emotion, he still pays her alimony.
