I removed the pan from the eye and set it on a back burner. A minute later Sheila walked into the kitchen, Wendy in her wake. The sausages were almost done, so Sheila just cracked a dozen eggs into the pan and scrambled them, telling us that we could eat breakfast however we wished.
Jerry was out the door by seven. Wendy returned to her room and came back down twenty minutes later wearing the goth outfit Sheila had purchased for her on Wednesday. "Damn!" I exclaimed. "Don't you look beautiful?"
"If I knew it would do any good, I would have worn my new lingerie under it," she said with that same wicked smile that told me she had sweet, sweet devilment on her mind.
I took her hand and led her to the front porch where we sat on the rocker swing. We sat in silence for a full five minutes before I said, "How would you like to come back to Georgia with me?"
"What?" she asked in total disbelief.
"It would be for only a few weeks."
Her smile faltered a bit.
"I ... I guess ..."
I told her of the offer Jerry had made me, that I had taken it because I knew she was my destiny. I told her that I wanted her there with me as I closed this old chapter of my life and began a new one with her as the center of my universe. "Besides, I have a lot of shit to pack and I could really use the help."
She laughed, then silence, then, "So, we're really going to be together? Happily ever after?"
"I will do everything in my power to give you that fairy tale ending," I promised her.
"Sheila!" Wendy screamed. "Guess what?" She opened the screen door to find Sheila standing there with a suitcase in her hand.
"You're all packed," Sheila told her. "I'll see you when you come home." She looked at me.
"You too, favorite nephew."
We hugged, said our good-byes, and Wendy and I were on our way. We were scarcely a mile down the road when I asked, "What do you think your mother will have to say about this?"
"Who knows, who cares?" she responded. "What about your parents?"
"Nothing good, I'm sure. Then again, I've always been the black sheep, so it's not like I care either. Besides, I'm with the woman I love. What can be more wonderful than that?"
She held my hand. We continued down the road, forging a future that seemed more fate than destiny.

Lovely story. I loved the romance in it, just as much as the sexiness. The end was very romantic and I felt happy for Wendy. Thank you.
I was a little thrown trying to pin an age on the MC. In many ways he seems like a twenty-something himself, but for the fact that he has a fully grown daughter. It was just a little odd the way Jerry was speaking to him as if he was offering him his first 'real' job or something.
There were also a rather large number of relationship roadblocks that were just plowed through(age difference, location difference, family members, transitioning, etc) in a rather unrealistic fashion. This further added to the confusion with the MC, as I would think a man of his age and experience wouldn't just ignore those issues.
Otherwise a nice read though. I find I am enjoying stories that aim for tenderness rather than sexiness more and more.
A great, well-placed story. I loved how romantic and realistic it was. Very well done. Kudos.
