This is delightful analogy between human relations and learning to dance.

The man never* leads with his left. Left hand (up) is to indicate a solo turn by the lady and right hand for open (promenade) and closed position. A joined turn would be when the man steps back into a turn: he knows what he wants, so he does so while stepping back and the lady stepping forward.
*) ok, yeah there are exemptions (rumba/cha-cha-cha hockeystick etc), but this is true for 90% of all non-latin dance moves.
Still a solid 5 for this story.
